Heavy rain has been affecting Afghanistan's eastern province of Badakhshan over the past couple of days, causing floods that killed at least 16 people. In neighboring Pakistan, heavy rains since June 27 caused floods and landslides that claimed lives of at least 51 people.

As of 07:00 UTC on July 18, 2017, at least 16 people have been killed and 19 injured. Up to 250 houses have been destroyed in 15 villages and over 300 people displaced in Badakhshan's districts of Nusay, Shekay and Kuf Ab.

Floods in Badakhshan came as at least 60 people were reportedly killed and 100 more were missing in the floods in northern Baghlan province.

Parts of neighboring Pakistan were also affected by heavy rains since late June, especially provinces of Punjab and Balochistan, causing floods and landslides.

National authorities reported, as of July 14, that the death toll has reached 51 people, of which 14 in Punjab, nine in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, six in Sindh, 17 in Balochistan, four in FATA and one in AJ&K. Moreover, 58 people have been injured and 67 houses damaged between June 26 and July 12.
