Observational data shows an increase in seismicity at Indonesia’s Dieng volcano, prompting the Indonesian Centre for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) to raise the Alert Level from 1 to 2 (on a scale of 4) on January 13, 2023. The Dieng Volcanic Complex, which is made up of multiple stratovolcanoes and more than 20 small Pleistocene-to-Holocene craters, last erupted in April 2021 (VEI 1).
The Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation Center (PVMBG) reported that beginning in July 2022, the seismic network at Ijen volcano in East Java, Indonesia began detecting increasing numbers of shallow volcanic earthquakes and earthquake signals characteristic of emissions, indicating increasing pressure at shallow depths within the hydrothermal system.
Indonesia’s Marapi volcano started erupting at around 23:00 UTC on January 6, 2023, resulting in a column of thick gray ash rising about 300 m (960 feet) above the peak or around 3.2 km (10 200 feet) a.s.l. The Aviation Color Code was raised to Orange. The Alert Level is at Level II (WASPADA) since August 3, 2011.

Volcanic activity at Anak Krakatau increased on August 2, 2022, with the first of several eruptions starting at 08:49 UTC. It had maximum amplitude of 33 mm and lasted 32 seconds, ejecting ash up to 1.5 km (4 900 feet) above the peak. The Aviation Color Code remains at Orange.
Anak Krakatau volcano erupted at 06:04 UTC on June 8, 2022, with the height of the ash column observed ± 500 m (1 640 feet) above the peak (± 657 m / 2 155 feet above sea level). The Alert Level remains at 3 and the Aviation Color Code at Orange.
A strong eruption took place at Ibu volcano, Indonesia at 07:46 UTC on May 16, 2022, ejecting thick gray ash up to 3.8 km (12 240 feet) above sea level. The Aviation Color Code remains at Orange and the Alert Level at 3.
The Volcanic Alert Level for Awu volcano, located in North Sulawesi, Indonesia, was raised from Level 2 to 3 on May 11, 2022, after earthquake energy values showed a drastic increase on May 9 and 10. The last eruption of this volcano took place in June 2004 (VEI 2).
