Utah’s Little Cottonwood Canyon engulfed in over 1.2 m of snow
Utah’s Little Cottonwood Canyon experienced a severe snowstorm on Monday, resulting in vehicles being buried under more than 1.2 meters (4 feet) of snow. The heavy snowfall, which began on Friday, accumulated rapidly, leaving many cars completely covered.
A severe snowstorm struck Utah’s Little Cottonwood Canyon on Monday, December 4, 2023, leading to an unusual sight of cars buried under several feet of snow. Footage from the area showed numerous vehicles almost entirely submerged in snow, with only the black windshield wipers visible above the white blanket.
The video revealed that many of the cars had been stationary since the onset of the storm and were entirely engulfed by the snowfall. According to Luke Stone, who captured the footage, residents spent hours digging in an attempt to free their vehicles from the thick layer of snow.
The snowstorm began its onslaught on Friday, with the nearby Alta Ski Resort reporting an initial 41.9 cm (16.5 inches) of snowfall. The situation intensified over the weekend, with an additional 51 cm (20 inches) falling on Saturday, followed by 48.2 cm (19 inches) on Sunday.
This rapid accumulation of snow resulted in a total of over 1.2 meters (4 feet), creating significant challenges for residents of Little Cottonwood Canyon.
