A strong and shallow earthquake registered by the USGS as M6.0 hit the Kermadec Islands, New Zealand at 12:05 UTC on September 27, 2019. The agency is reporting a depth of 35 km (21 miles). EMSC is reporting M6.1 at a depth of 2 km (1.2 miles).
The epicenter was located 96 km (59 miles) S of Raoul Island and 940 km (584 miles) NE of Ngunguru, Northland, New Zealand.
There are no people living within 100 km (62 miles).
