New York City and Toronto experience coldest November 10 ever
On November 10, 2017, the city of Toronto, Canada registered -10.1 °C (13.8 °F), breaking its previous record for the day set it 1938. On the same day, the temperature in Central Park, New York City, US, dropped to -3.3 °C (26 °F), beating the record low of -2.7 °C (27 °F) for the date set in 1914.
The temperature at Pearson International Airport, Toronto dropped to a low of -10.1 °C (13.8 °F) at 08:00 local time, breaking the previous record for the day of -8.9 °C (15.9 °F) set in 1938.
"Adding insult to injury, the temperature probably seemed even cooler with the wind chill making it feel closer to -15 °C (5 °F) for most of the morning rush hour," cp24 reported.
Environment Canada issued snow squall warnings, snow squall watches, and special weather statements for a swath of southwestern Ontario, cautioning drivers of reduced visibility on roadways.
"These are the first significant snow squalls of the season," the agency wrote in a snow squall warning. "Snow squalls cause weather conditions to vary considerably; changes from clear skies to heavy snow within just a few kilometers are common."
This wave of arctic air is bringing below normal temperatures across much of Central and Eastern United States, too. Daily record lows are likely from Michigan to Maryland Saturday morning, including Indianapolis, Philadelphia, New York City, Albany, Boston and Hartford.
On Friday night, November 10, the low temperature in Central Park dropped to -3.3 °C (26 °F), beating the record low of -2.7 ° C (27 °F) for the date set in 1914.
On Saturday morning, Central Park is expected to break its 84-year-old record low of -2.2 °C (28 °F) for November 11 set in 1933.
