• Widespread flooding continues across Nigeria as death toll rises to 238

    Heavy rainfall during Nigeria’s 2025 summer rainy season has affected 27 of the country’s 36 states, causing severe floods and river overflows that left at least 238 people dead and 826 injured. According to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the European Commission’s Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (DG ECHO), more than 135 000 people have been displaced and about 400 000 in total affected. The worst-hit states are Lagos, Adamawa, Akwa Ibom, Imo, Taraba and Rivers, where over 47 000 houses and 60 000 ha (148 000 acres) of farmland have been destroyed or damaged.

    Flooding in southern Chad has killed 22 people and affected approximately 123 000 across 549 villages in Mandoul and Moyen-Chari provinces, according to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN OCHA) on October 8, 2025. The floods destroyed more than 9 800 houses, injured 19 people, and displaced around 720 residents as heavy rains continued across the region.

  • Three dead, six rescued after severe flood hits Elenite holiday village, Bulgaria

    A major flood hit the Elenite holiday village on Bulgaria’s Black Sea coast at around 11:40 LT on October 3, 2025, after 200–250 mm (7.9–9.8 inches) of rain fell in a short period. Environment Minister Manol Genov described the rainfall as among the most intense recorded in the region in recent years. At least three people died, and six women, including three Polish tourists, were rescued.

  • Floods in Pakistan leave nearly 1 000 dead, 6.3 million affected and 2.9 million displaced since June 26

    Monsoon floods in Pakistan have killed at least 972 people and injured about 1 062 since June 26, 2025, affecting 6.3 million and displacing 2.9 million across the country. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa remains the worst-hit province with more than 500 fatalities, while Punjab has reported 290 deaths and Sindh over 173 000 displaced. Health authorities have also issued dengue alerts for major cities in Sindh, where stagnant floodwaters heighten the risk of outbreaks.
