    Tropical Storm “Yagi” struck Luzon Island, Philippines on Monday, September 2, 2024. It brought heavy rainfall across the country that led to floods and landslides causing 11 casualties so far. Schools and government offices were shut down and 29 domestic flights were canceled due to the severe weather conditions. After moving over the Philippines, Yagi is expected to rapidly intensify into a typhoon and head toward Hainan Island, China.

    A very bright fireball was sighted over multiple U.S. states, including North Carolina and Tennessee, at around 05:15 UTC (00:15 LT) on Friday, August 30, 2024. The object broke up above the town of Altapass, North Carolina, producing energy equivalent to 10 tons of TNT. It is likely that meteorites have fallen in the Spruce Pine, Ingalls, and Altapass area.

    Gujarat’s Saurashtra-Kachchh region has been battered by torrential rains produced by a deep depression that intensified into Cyclonic Storm “Asna” today. The resulting flooding has led to 32 deaths, and the evacuation of more than 32 000 people. The intense flooding has also led to crocodiles taking over the city of Vadodara. Asna is the second named storm of the 2024 North Indian Ocean cyclone season.

    The Arbaaat dam in Sudan’s Red Sea State collapsed on August 25, 2024, resulting in severe flash floods in the surrounding regions as the reservoir was fully drained. Reports from Agence France Presse (AFP) indicate 132 casualties while local authorities have confirmed only 30. The floods destroyed 20 villages while the homes of 50 000 people have either been destroyed or damaged.

    Typhoon “Shanshan” has slowed down as it neared Japan on August 26, 2024. The system is projected to approach western Japan and the Amami region from Tuesday through Wednesday, August 27 and 28, bringing strong winds and heavy rain, particularly along the Pacific coast. JTWC forecast places the landfall point south of Sasebo at approximately 15:00 UTC on August 29 with maximum sustained winds of around 150 km/h (92 mph).
