Extremely close-range footage of the Foshan tornado, China
A damaging tornado hit the city of Foshan in China’s Guangdong Province on June 19, 2022. This is the second damaging tornado to hit the province within just 3 days.
Local authorities said the tornado hit Nanhai District in Foshan around 07:20 LT (23:20 UTC, June 18) and lasted about one minute.1
The tornado caused damage to homes and buildings, and downed electrical cables, causing power outages and fires, but there were no casualties.
This is the second damaging tornado to hit China’s Guangzhou province in just three days. On June 16, a large stovepipe tornado touched down in the port city of Guangzhou, causing major damage as it moved into downtown.2
The damage survey suggests it had EF-2 peak strength and was on the ground for about 5 minutes, traveling a distance of 1.5 km (0.9 miles). Fortunately, there were no casualties.
A destructive tornado hit Foshan on October 4, 2015, leaving at least 3 people dead and 80 others injured.
