A strong and shallow earthquake registered by the USGS as M6.4 hit west of Macquarie Island at 13:17 UTC on June 4, 2022. The agency is reporting a depth of 10 km (6.2 miles). EMSC is reporting M6.3 at a depth of 10 km.
The epicenter was located 1635.9 km (1016.5 miles) S of Geeveston, Tasmania, Australia.
There are no people living within 100 km (62 miles).
There is no tsunami threat from this earthquake.
