Asteroid 2018 RC to flyby Earth at 0.58 LD on September 9

A newly discovered asteroid designated 2018 RC will flyby Earth at a distance of 0.58 LD / 0.00150 AU (224 396 km / 139 433 miles) on September 9, 2018. This is the 41st known asteroid to flyby Earth within 1 lunar distance since January 1.

2018 RC was discovered at ATLAS-MLO, Mauna Loa on September 3, 2018. It belongs to the Aten group of asteroids and has an estimated diameter between 32 and 71 m (105 – 233 feet), making it one of the largest known asteroids to flyby Earth within 1 lunar distance this year.

The object is expected to flyby us at 12:06 UTC on September 9 at a speed (relative to the Earth) of 5.33 km/s.
