    A long-duration heat wave affecting the central and eastern United States is forecast to shift its most intense conditions into the south-central states this weekend and early next week, according to the Weather Prediction Center (WPC). High humidity and very warm nights are expected to contribute to widespread Major to Extreme HeatRisk, with heat indices potentially exceeding 43.3°C (110°F) in South Texas.

    Major to Extreme HeatRisk conditions are forecast to develop across parts of the central United States this week as a strengthening heat dome expands over the region. National Weather Service offices have already issued Heat Advisories across portions of Kansas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois, and Texas, where heat index values are forecast to reach 40 to 42°C (104 to 108°F).

The twisters were the result of a storm system that brought significant rainfall, localized flash floods, and widespread wind damage to the region over the Valentine’s weekend.
