Heavy rainfall brings chaos to Madrid, flooding metro stations, highways, and Madrid Airport
Madrid has been grappling with the consequences of heavy rainfall since Thursday, May 25, 2023. The downpour has brought about significant disruption and chaos throughout the city.
As a result, commuters have been forced to navigate their way through water-filled metro stations, while motorists have encountered the challenge of maneuvering through inundated highways. Moreover, the onslaught of rainwater has permeated Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport, leading to ceiling leaks and subsequently flooding the runways.
The situation prompted the activation of emergency services to rescue drivers trapped in their vehicles.
It is worth noting that the capital had experienced a prolonged absence of substantial rainfall in the preceding months, thereby exacerbating the impact of this sudden downpour.
