Roads washed out, backyards flooded after intense rainfall in Prince Edward County, Virginia

Heavy rainfall caused flash flooding in Prince Edward County, Virginia on July 9, 2025, inundating roadways and backyards. Flash flood warnings were issued for the region as runoff overwhelmed local drainage systems.

A sudden downpour on July 9, triggered flash flooding in Prince Edward County, Virginia, resulting in widespread surface water impacts across roads and neighborhoods. Social media footage documented water flowing through backyards and over roadways near the Town of Farmville, where infrastructure was briefly overwhelmed.

The National Weather Service issued a Flood Watch for the region at 15:57 local time (LT), with conditions remaining hazardous into the early morning of July 10. Following that, localized Flash Flood Warnings were broadcast as storm cells delivered an estimated 50–130 mm (2–5 inches) of rainfall in under one hour.

Several videos posted online captured streets turned into shallow rivers, submerged driveways, and runoff pouring into yards. However, as of July 11, there have been no official reports of injuries or structural damage, and the County of Prince Edward has not issued any public statement or emergency bulletin regarding the flooding.

The event appears to have been highly localized, with no regional flood declarations or emergency alerts beyond the weather advisories issued on the day of the storm.
