Asteroid 2019 QQ3 flew past Earth at 0.25 LD

A newly discovered asteroid designated 2019 QQ3 flew past Earth at 0.25 LD / 0.00064 AU (95 724 km / 59 491 miles) on August 26, 2019. This is the 38th known asteroid to flyby Earth within 1 lunar distance since the start of the year and the 4th this month.

The object was first observed at Catalina Sky Survey on August 27, one day after it made close approach to our planet.

QQ3 belongs to the Apollo group of asteroids. Its estimated diameter is between 3.7 and 8.2 m (12.1 – 26.9 miles).

It flew past us at a speed (relative to the Earth) of 19.73 km/s at 15:14 UTC.
