Powerful tornado leaves a trail of destruction in Punjab’s Fazilka district
A powerful tornado struck Bukainwala village in Punjab’s Fazilka district, India on Friday, March 24, 2023, causing severe damage to over 50 houses and acres of crops.
While there have been no fatalities reported, at least ten people have been injured, leaving the residents in panic.
Villagers have reported extensive damage to trees and crops in the fields. Several houses were left collapsed, and several others had roofs blown off, leaving the residents in distress.
Senu Duggal, the deputy commissioner of Fazilka, has stated that the damage is significant, and they are assessing the exact loss of houses and other property.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has reported that isolated locations across Punjab experienced western disturbance-triggered rains, thunderstorms, and gusty winds on Friday.
The IMD has warned that similar weather events are likely to continue in the region for the next few days, urging residents to take necessary precautions.
