A strong and shallow earthquake registered by the USGS as M6.5 hit Western Indian-Antarctic Ridge at 14:46 UTC on April 18, 2019. The agency is reporting a depth of 10 km (6.2 miles). EMSC is reporting M6.5 at a depth of 11 km (6.8 miles).
The epicenter was located 1 042 km (647 miles) SW of Geeveston and 1 075 km (668 miles) SW of Kingston, Tasmania, Australia.
There are no people living within 100 km (62 miles).
There is no tsunami threat from this earthquake.
