Record-breaking March heat across Nevada
Las Vegas Valley, a major metropolitan area located in the southern part of the US state of Nevada, registered two consecutive days of record highs over the weekend and the first 90-degree °F (32.2 °C) day of the year as record-breaking March heat continues across the state.
According to the National Weather Service, several meteorological stations in the valley registered 90 °F on Saturday, March 18 just before 16:00 local time, breaking the 1972 record of 88 °F (31.1 °C). It was the first time the temperatures reached 90 °F since October 22, 2016.
Sunday brought another unusually warm March day with another record high of 90 °F, breaking the previous record for March 19 set in 1939 by 2 °F (1.1 °C) and bringing the total daily record highs for the month to four.
"The last time the valley saw two record highs in a row was in November 2016," said NWS meteorologist Jim Harrison.
