• Damaging tornado rips through Levin, New Zealand

    A damaging tornado hit the town of Levin, New Zealand’s North Island on May 20, 2022, causing widespread damage and injuring several people. New Zealand’s Met Service recorded a wind gust of 140 km/h (86 mph) in the town but at the time of press, it was still not able to determine whether it was indeed a tornado that caused the damage, or a thunderstorm collapsing on itself.

    A weak tornado hit the district of Barpeta, Assam, India on May 7, 2022, damaging 7 huts.
    The tornado started from the banks of the Brahmaputra river, which flows close to Rowmari village, and remained restricted to a small area. While northern India is prone to tornadoes, this event was described by meteorologists as very rare.

  • Major damage after tornadoes rip through parts of Oklahoma and Texas, U.S.

    Major damage was reported in parts of Texas and Oklahoma after a series of tornadoes ripped through the region. On Thursday, May 5, severe thunderstorms are expected from eastern Texas into the mid-Mississippi Valley. Storms will shift over the lower Mississippi into the Tennessee Valleys on Friday, then Saturday into Monday from the central Plains into the Midwest.
