A strong earthquake registered by the USGS as M6.0 struck southeast of Lata, Solomon Islands, at 23:28 UTC on October 25, 2025. The agency is reporting a depth of 54.4 km (33.8 miles). EMSC is reporting M6.0 at a depth of 65 km (40.4 miles). There is no tsunami threat from this earthquake.

The epicenter was located 199 km (123 miles) SSE of Lata (population 553), and 355 km (221 miles) NNW of Luganville (population 13 397), Solomon Islands.
26 000 people are estimated to have felt weak shaking, and 4 000 light shaking.
There is no tsunami threat from this earthquake.
The USGS issued a Green alert for shaking-related fatalities and economic losses. There is a low likelihood of casualties and damage.
Overall, the population in this region resides in structures that are highly vulnerable to earthquake shaking, though some resistant structures exist. The predominant vulnerable building types are miscellaneous and wood construction. Recent earthquakes in this area have caused secondary hazards such as landslides that might have contributed to losses.
