Asteroids 2019 UU1 and UG flew past Earth within 1 lunar distance on October 18
Two newly discovered asteroids, designated 2019 UU1 and 2019 UG, flew past Earth on October 18, 2019, at a distance of 0.59 LD and 0.84 LD, respectively.
Asteroid 2019 UU1 was first observed at Mt. Lemmon Survey, Arizona on October 19, 2019. The object flew past us at a distance of 0.59 LD (0.00151 AU / 225 892 / 140 363 miles) at 06:23 UTC.
This is Apollo asteroid with an estimated diameter between 2.3 and 5.1 m (7.5 – 16.7 feet).

2019 UG was first observed at Catalina Sky Survey, Arizona on October 19, 2019. The object belongs to the Apollo group of asteroids and has an estimated diameter between 6.8 and 15 m (22.3 – 49.2 feet).
It flew past Earth at a distance of 0.84 LD (0.00215 AU / 321 635 / 199 854 miles) at 09:23 UTC.

There are a total of 21 200 known near-Earth objects (NEOs) as of October 20, 2019. 108 of them are near-Earth comets (NEC), 900 are asteroids with diameters roughly 1 km (0.62 miles) and larger (NEA-km).
Our sky surveys have discovered a total of 1 811 NEOs since January 1, 2019. 1 839 were discovered during the entire 2018.
