More than 3 000 earthquakes have been automatically detected near Eldvörp in the Reykjanes/Svartsengi volcanic system in the past week, the Icelandic Met Office reports. In addition, recent deformation observations identified the onset of a new inflation event west of Thorbjörn which is likely caused by magma intrusion.

An eruptive fracture opened on the northern flank of Etna’s Southeast Crater on the evening of May 12, 2022, after series of ash emissions. This led to the production of a small lava flow whose front reached the northern base of the crater. The flow is still active and producing ash- and steam-rich plumes as of early Saturday morning, May 14.
A series of strong explosions took place at Stromboli volcano, Italy on May 13, 2022. The first event was a moderately strong explosion at 14:42 UTC, followed by a dozen other events over the next three minutes of which the most energetic was at 14:43 UTC.

High levels of volcanic gas emissions and strong volcanic tremor continue at New Zealand’s Ruapehu volcano. The Crater Lake (Te Wai ā-moe) temperature has risen to 41 °C (105.8 °F) and steam plumes can be observed in cold, still atmospheric conditions. The volcano is still at a heightened level of unrest. The Volcanic Alert Level remains at 2, with greater chances of eruption over the next four weeks than at Volcanic Alert Level 1.
