Brilliant fireball over Indiana, U.S.

A very bright fireball was seen over Indiana and surrounding states at 05:52 UTC on July 22, 2022.

The American Meteor Society (AMS) received 150 reports and many spectacular videos. While the event was mainly seen from Indiana, AMS also received many reports from Ohio, Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa, Missouri, Kentucky, and northern Alabama.

The initial computer-generated trajectory shows that this fireball entered the atmosphere over Advance, Indiana and ended its flight near Burlington, Indiana. Both of these towns lie just northwest of Indianapolis.1

There are no reports of loud booms with this event, which indicate that the fireball completely disintegrated while still high in the atmosphere.
