Heavy winds and snowfall caused road accidents in southern and southwestern Germany on Friday, February 28, 2020, resulting in one fatality and eight people injured.

A woman was killed in a road accident that occurred on a snowy road in Rhineland-Palatinate, according to a German news agency.

In a separate accident, gusty winds overturned a bus traveling in Tomerdingen in Baden-Wuerttemberg from Croatia. As a result, eight people sustained injuries, two of which were severe.

A day prior to the incidents, the Europa League soccer match between Salzburg and Eintracht Frankfurt was canceled at short notice due to an incoming storm.

About a week ago, several cities in western Germany also canceled traditional carnival parades at short notice as severe weather conditions also brought strong winds and heavy rains.

Weather forecasts said the wintry conditions would be coming to an end soon as temperatures warm up over the weekend.
