At least 8 cm (3 inches) of snow was registered in Spokane, Washington on October 8, 2019, breaking the record set in 1981. The record snowfall blocked streets and knocked down towers, causing power interruptions to more than 36 000 residents. Classes were also suspended.
Emergency responders were blasted with calls that some reports were not attended to due to the high volume of calls.
The Spokane School District canceled classes on October 9 due to the aftermath of heavy snow.
Grand Boulevard was impassable after tree branches were scattered on the streets.
Spokane police also reported that several streets were blocked by torn branches. Spokane was not the only area in Washington that received an early snowfall.
Stevens got about a foot of snow, while Snoqualmie received a few inches.

This is Spokane's second early snowfall in 2019. The area received 3.5 cm (1.4 inches) of snow on September 27 and 28.
