Dengue fever cases surge to 15 084 in 2019 in Mexico
The number of confirmed dengue fever cases in Mexico has seen a surge to 15 084 or 200% in 2019, according to the country's Health Ministry report issued on Friday, October 4, 2019.
In 2018, only 3 494 cases were registered. Half of the confirmed cases have been recorded in the Veracruz and Jalisco states.
On the other hand, the number of unconfirmed cases this year is 129 500 as of October, compared to 39 900 cases in 2018.

Millenio news outlet reported that the highest number of dengue fever death cases was recorded in July and August.
This year, a total of 72 dengue-related fatalities were registered in Mexico, including 10 recent cases in the state of Morelos.
According to media reports, local authorities have not been eager to declare emergency over the circumstances.
Dengue fever is a mosquito-borne infectious disease that causes severe flu symptoms that can be potentially fatal if not promptly treated.
