Torrential rains hit Ouest Department in Haiti on September 18, 2019, causing flash floods that left two people dead and four others missing, reports confirmed on September 22.

According to reports, two fatalities were in Petit-Goave in the Leogane Arrondissement.

The violent weather destroyed more than 250 homes, infrastructure and agricultural lands.

Around 350 households were affected by the floods in the localities of Percin, Belle Avenue, Bas rue Louverture, Nan Bantam, rue Geffrard, rue Petion, Figaro, rue Benoit, and rue Desvignes, said the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN-OCHA) in Haiti. Damage evaluation is still ongoing.

Over 120 people have been evacuated to a temporary shelter in a local school.

Officials stated that relief assistance was delivered to Petit-Goave on September 21, including food, water, and hygiene kits.

On September 18, Ganthier in the Croix-des-Bouquets Arrondissement was also affected by floods, prompting road closures and traffic disruptions.

  1. All THESE rich people with out any challenges, why not build a flood resist village for some of these people, or if true water ocean levels rising, might have to leave islands in near future, dome housing .
