More than 350 students and 50 teachers were stuck in a private school in Chittorgargh for two days after the discharge of waters from Rana Pratap Dam which caused floods in the area on Saturday, September 15, 2019.

According to reports, the students had to remain on the premises for two nights until rescue arrived. Food, water, medicine, and doctors were then sent to the school as per the directive of the state government.

Kota District Collector Muktanand Agrawal stated that more water needs to be released from the dam, adding that army personnel, disaster response force, and defense teams are prepared to attend to any eventuality.

Chittorgarh Additional Collector Mukesh Kumar Kalal confirmed that the students had been evacuated, saying "now when the water has receded, we have taken the kids out and are in the process of dropping them at their home."

He added that other officials are personally monitoring the rescue operations. However, recent reports say that 50 students are still stuck inside the school.

Rawatbhata Sub-Division Magistrate Ramswaroop Gurjar explained the situation, "Students of Adarsh Vidya Mandir school were stranded because of an overflowing rivulet that separates the Rawatbhata town from the school."

Incessant rains in Madhya Pradesh have also produced a flood-like condition in Kota, Rajasthan, as most dams are on the verge of swelling.

Weather reports forecasted heavy to heavy rains in Baran, Chittorgarh, Jhalawar, and Kota districts to continue in the next 24 hours.
