Annual monsoon death toll reaches 650 across India, Nepal, Bangladesh and Pakistan
More than 650 people were killed since the onset of annual monsoon across India, Nepal, Bangladesh and Pakistan.
Heavy rainfall and resulting floods affected more than 10 million people and forced tens of thousands to evacuate.
Officials in India report at least 467 deaths in Bihar, Assam, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh alone. Heavy rainfall and floods are now expected in Kerala, Karnataka, West Bengal and Himalayan Sikkim states.
Neighboring Nepal reported at least 94 deaths and 29 missing people. Bangladesh reports more than 97 deaths due to drowning and lightning strikes, with a third of the country submerged.
At least 30 people were killed in Pakistan.
