Flash flood hits Lima canyon, claiming lives of 8 tourists – Parras, Coahuila, Mexico
Heavy rain on the afternoon of July 2, 2019, caused severe flash floods in Lima canyon in Parras, Coahuila, Mexico.
State Civil Protection chief Francisco Martínez Ávalos said heavy rains caused a severe flash flood in an area that seconds previously would have been completely dry.
The sudden rush of water hit a van and an ATV, claiming the lives of 8 tourists. One person is still missing.
According to the office of the Attorney General, bodies of a 65-year-old man, a woman and four young boys and girls aged 14 to 19 were found on July 5, 2019.
Rescue and search teams also found out the bodies of a 14-year-old girl and an 18-year-old boy. The bodies of all the victims are awaiting the autopsies to ascertain the cause of the death.
