A very bright fireball exploded over Brisbane, Queensland, Australia at 22:00 LT (12:00 UTC) on June 22, 2019.

The event lasted several seconds before the object exploded in a bright flash. Thousands of people have seen or heard it.

Three booms were heard in quick succession, local media reported.

Witnesses described the sound and feel like an explosion as it passed overhead. Others said it felt like an earthquake.

Julie Straayer, vice-president of South-East Queensland Astronomical Society, said it was a special night for space-watching.

"It was such a bright flash of light," she said. "Depending on what it was made of, the metal, would have determined the reaction, including the color of the light we saw. "We were just in the right place at the right time, and looking up."
