Severe thunderstorms hit the eastern Indian state of Bihar on June 10, claiming the lives of at least 8 people and leaving at least 11 injured.

At least 8 people were killed and 11 others injured on June 10 after severe thunderstorms hit the districts of Gopalganj, Seohar, Sitamarhi, and East and West Champaran

"Three casualties have been reported from Gopalganj district, two in Sheohar district and one each in Sitamarhi, East and West Champaran," All India Radio (AIR) reported.

Several trees were uprooted and electric supply has been disrupted. Train services were also hit due to a thunderstorm in northern parts of the state.

Local media reported widespread damage to crops, including mango and litchi.

Last week, severe thunderstorms, hail and dust storm left at least 26 people dead and 57 others injured in Uttar Pradesh.

Dust storms and thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rains killed over 250 people and injured more than 400 in five states in the country in the first few months of 2018.
