Deep M6.1 earthquake hits Izu Islands region, Japan
A deep earthquake registered by the JMA as M6.1 hit Izu Islands region, Japan at 04:39 UTC (13:39 local time) on June 4, 2019. The agency is reporting a depth of 440 km (273 miles). USGS is reporting M6.3 at a depth of 430.3 km (267.3 miles). This earthquake can have a low humanitarian impact based on the magnitude and the affected population and their vulnerability.
The epicenter was located 606 km (376 miles) SSE of Shingu (population 31 619), 623 km (387 miles) S of Oyama (population 21 744) and 623 km (387 miles) S of Shimoda (population 26 704), Japan.
There are no people living within 100 km (620 miles).
This earthquake poses no tsunami risk, JMA said.
