Heavy rain hits Oman, claiming at least 6 lives

A low pressure system over the Arabian Peninsula dropped heavy rain on Oman from May 18 to 22, 2019, leaving at least 6 people dead.

Oman authorities launched a massive search and rescue operation on May 18 after flash floods swept away a vehicle with 7 people inside.

4 bodies were retrieved, authorities confirmed May 23, adding that one person managed to leave the vehicle and survive by clutching to a palm tree.

The incident happened in Wadi Bani Khalid, about 200 km (124 miles) from Muscat.

Heavy rains resulted in blocked roads and stranded residents across the country.
