Storms and lightning strikes claims at least 23 lives in Assam, India

At least 23 people have died and 22 801 families were affected by the storms and lightning strikes in 18 districts of the Indian state of Assam over the past few weeks.
The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said in a statement released May 14, 2019 that 13 persons died after being knocked by lightning and 10 persons died during the storms.
The most affected zones were the districts of Sivasagar, Golaghat, Dhubri, Cachar and Sontipur, the Mid-day reported.
The Assam state government also ordered all the deputy commissioners to release ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh to the next of kin of each of the human loss within 48 hours, and all the DC’s of the affected areas have been directed to assessing citizens who lost their properties to the rehabilitation of the most part of severely damaged houses, according to the Indian norms.
