Over 4 000 domestic animals killed and 100 homes destroyed in large wildfires, Siberia, Russia

Large wildfires in Russia's Trans-Baikal Region, Siberia destroyed at least 109 buildings and facilities and killed over 4 000 domestic animals on April 19 and 20, 2019.

Fueled by strong winds, the fires raged toward populated areas forcing authorities to issue a state of emergency.

17 settlements were affected in the south and southeast of the Trans-Baikal Region, destroying 109 buildings and facilities. At least 29 people were injured, 4 of them seriously.

Regional Ministry of Agriculture reported over 4 000 cows, goats, sheep, horses and domestic birds have been killed, TASS reports.

"According to preliminary data, 374 cows, over 3 200 goats and sheep, 22 pigs, 27 horses and 478 birds have been killed in the fires. Besides, some animals have scattered over the steppe, and their owners are currently looking for them," the ministry’s press service informed.
