PVMBG warns firsherfolk to stay away from Anak Krakatau, Indonesia

The Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) has called on fisherfolk to stay alert and maintain a safe distance from Anak Krakatau volcano after an increase in eruptive activity was recorded in late February.
The PVMBG recorded that there were plumes of volcanic ash at Anak Krakatau that rose 500 m (1 640 feet) in height on February 23, the Jakarta Post reports.
In addition, 6 volcanic earthquakes and one tectonic earthquake were recorded on February 26. There were 18 volcanic earthquakes and 11 tectonic earthquakes registered on February 28.

"We advise local fishermen to be more alert. They should stay at least 5 km (3.1 miles) s away from the mountain for their safety," an officer of the Mount Anak Krakatau observation post, Deni Mardiono, said.
