Up to 600 dolphins washed up along Atlantic coast of France this year
Up to 600 dolphins have washed up on beaches along the Atlantic coast of France since the start of 2019. Although dead dolphins wash up on beaches in France every year, scientists say the situation is alarming.
Two different surveys, according to The Local, showed the number of carcasses found this year is between 400 and 600. Scientists said even 400 is higher than any previous year, adding the situation is alarming.
According to the French environmental charity France Nature Environnement (FNE), 93% of the found carcasses show signs that they have been captured by fishing vessels and their equipment such as mutilations, amputations and fractured jaws.

Researchers say these deaths could also threaten dolphin populations in the years to come, The Local reports.
