Another round of heavy rain is affecting Indonesia over the past couple of days, causing dangerous flash floods and landslides across parts of the country.

A landslide struck Daun Paris Raja Berneh hot springs resort in Daulu village of Karo District, North Sumatra, on December 2, killing seven university students and leaving seven others seriously injured. The incident happened when part of a cliff in the area collapsed at about 06:00 LT following heavy downpour in the region the night before.

"They did not have time to escape when the debris fell on the place where they were staying," Karo Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) Martin Sitepu told The Jakarta Post..

One of the witnesses said the students were sleeping in a cottage in the resort when the landslide hit. They were there for a gathering involving senior and junior students of the university. It was their first night at the resort.

Two children (aged 2 and 11) were swept away by a flash flood in South Angkola district, South Tapanuli regency on November 29.

At least 4 people were killed and 5 seriously injured after a landslide hit Krahjab village in Purwakarta Regency, West Java on November 27.

Heavy rain and dangerous flash floods continued into December 3.

Floods were reported in several places of West Jakarta and East Jakarta.

A tent in front of the Semarang Town Hall collapsed today due to heavy rain accompanied by strong winds. Roads in parts of the city turned into raging rivers.

Authorities there are urging residents to increase vigilance, avoid going out and stay away from trees and billboards.
