Deep M6.7 earthquake hits Fiji
A strong and deep earthquake registered by the USGS as M6.7 hit Fiji region at 20:25 UTC on November 18, 2018. The agency is reporting a depth of 533 km (331 miles). EMSC is reporting M6.6 at a depth of 520 km (323 miles).
According to the USGS, the epicenter was located about 190 km (118 miles) E of Levuka and 245 km (152 miles) SE of Labasa, Fiji.
There are about 6 000 people living within 100 km (62 miles).
Some 1 045 000 are estimated to have felt weak shaking.
The USGS issued a green alert for shaking-related fatalities and economic losses. There is a low likelihood of casualties and damage.
Overall, the population in this region resides in structures that are vulnerable to earthquake shaking, though resistant structures exist. The predominant vulnerable building types are informal (metal, timber, GI etc.) and unknown/miscellaneous types construction.
