Tropical Cyclone “Gaja” moving toward Sri Lanka and southern India
Tropical Cyclone "Gaja" formed over the Bay of Bengal on November 10, 2018, as the 6th named storm of the 2018 North Indian Ocean cyclone season. The cyclone is moving WSW offshore towards southern India and northern Sri Lanka, bringing heavy rain and strong winds. Current forecast models call for another heavy rain maker to strike the same region after November 20.
At 00:00 UTC on November 12, the center of Tropical Cyclone "Gaja" was located approximately 800 km (500 miles) ENE of Nagapattinam City, Tamil Nadu, SE India and 760 km (472 miles) NE of Trincomalee City, NE Sri Lanka with maximum sustained winds of 65 km/h (40 mph).

Over the next 24 hours, it is forecast to continue strengthening but remaining a tropical storm.
Gaja could reach coastal areas of eastern Tamil Nadu early November 15 (UTC) with maximum sustained winds of 111 km/h (69 mph).
Heavy rainfall and strong winds could affect Tamil Nadu and the southern Andhra Pradesh States as well as northern Sri Lanka on November 14 and 15.
