Rockfall destroys Togoli village in Sudan’s South Darfur, killing at least 20 people and leaving 50 injured
At least 20 people have been killed, 6 are missing and 50 were injured after a large rockfall crashed down onto houses of Togoli village in South Darfur's Kass locality on September 7, 2018. The entire village was reportedly destroyed.
The rockfall was caused by heavy rainfall that started on September 6, the Shura Council of the Fur Tribe reported.
The council appealed to the authorities and humanitarian organizations to intervene and help the affected villagers.
"We urge the United Nations, NGOs and the government to help us find those still missing and to provide shelter to people living in the open," said Amin Mahmud Osman, general secretary of the council.
This area is remote and under the control of the rebel Sudan Liberation Army-Abdul Wahid, making independent information difficult, AFP reports.
