Violent flash flooding hits Cebolla, Toledo province, Spain
Very heavy rainfall caused violent flash flooding in the town of Cebola, Spain's Toledo province on September 8, 2018. While there were no injuries or fatalities reported, the infrastructural damage is high.
Weather stations registered around 30 mm (1.18 inches) of rain in just 15 minutes and between 50 and 60 mm (1.9 – 2.3 inches) in one hour, causing a nearby creek to break its banks.
Raging floodwaters swept through the streets, causing destruction and dragging cars in its wake, the FloodList reports.
Roads and buildings were severely damaged, the report states. Initial damage assessments suggest around 70 homes and 20 cars were damaged.
Flooding was also reported in Valdepeñas in the province of Ciudad Real after heavy rain and hail on September 9, 2018. Police reported roads were blocked and homes had been damaged.
