Destructive flash floods hit parts of Greece

Destructive flash floods hit parts of Greece on June 26, 2018, causing serious structural damage. Numerous rivers burst their banks across the mainland, sending high-speed flood waters through populated regions.
One of the worst-hit areas is the town of Mandra, the seat of Mandra-Eidyllia municipality, where 24 people died after similar flash flooding in November 2017. There are no reports of injuries, but structural damage is very high.
Around 30 homes were flooded and local roads submerged in the area of Kanalia after streams broke their banks, eKathimerini reports. Some 40 firefighters were on duty in the broader area and responded to scores of calls to pump out flooded basements or rescue stranded motorists, with the assistance of 17 fire engines.
Widespread flooding was also reported in Larissa.
Update
Avlonas in Attica recorded 156.2 mm (6.14 inches) of rain in 24 hours to June 27 and Nea Moudania in Halkidiki, Central Macedonia region recorded 110.1 mm (4.33 inches).
