An intense and damaging tornado touched down 32 km (20 miles) northwest of Cheyenne, Wyoming on Sunday, May 27, 2018. The full extent of the damage is unknown at this time, but video footage shows debris and cows flying through the air.

According to Reed Timmer, AccuWeather's Extreme Meteorologist, the tornado retrograded back west as it widened into a massive cone.

"Had to punch through hook with horizontal softballs to get to this vantage point," Timmer said. "Thankfully, everyone is okay here."

Severe thunderstorms with isolated very large hail, wind damage and perhaps a tornado threat are expected across parts of the Great Plains today, NWS warns. A couple of brief tornadoes will also be possible in the Southeast in conjunction with Subtropical Storm "Alberto" which is expected to make landfall later today.
