Asteroid 2018 CS1 flew past Earth at 0.90 LD, 3 days before discovery

A newly discovered asteroid designated 2018 CS1 flew past Earth at a distance of 0.90 LD / 0.00230 (~ 344 075 km / 213 798 miles) on February 4, 2018, 3 days before it was first observed. A total of 13 known asteroids flew past us within 1 lunar distance since the start of the year and five since the start of the month.

Asteroid 2018 CS1 belongs to the Apollo group of asteroids. It was first observed at Catalina Sky Survey on February 7, 2018.

This asteroid has an estimated diameter of 6.1 – 14 m (20 – 46 feet) and it flew past us at 14:50 UTC on February 4 at a speed (relative to the Earth) of 8.78 km/s.
