Severe drought is having a devastating impact on people in the Horn of Africa. 750 000 people have been newly displaced just in Somalia.

For agropastoralists in Somalia losing their animals is a telltale sign of trouble ahead. In many parts of the country, rains have barely brought reprieve from the prolonged drought that is affecting the Horn of Africa region. Up to 75% of livestock has died in the worst affected areas.

Amid outbreaks of cholera and measles, people have fled massively to areas where they can get help. The EU has released almost €119 million for relief aid in the form of cash transfers, water and sanitation as well as health care.
