Deadly thunderstorm hits Russia’s Sverdlovsk region, leaving 38 000 without power

At least one person has been killed and eight injured after a powerful thunderstorm swept through Russia's Sverdlovsk region on Saturday, June 3, 2017.
The storm brought heavy rain and 54 km/h (34 mph) winds, leaving more than 38 000 people without electricity and damaging dozens of buildings. The worst affected were Chelyabinsk, Nizhny Tagil, and Yekaterinburg, the region's capital.
One person died in Nizhny Tagil after being struck by a falling tree. 8 others were injured.
Forecasters say they expect thunderstorms, locally large hail and squally winds up to 72 – 90 km/h (45 – 56 mph) to keep affecting the region through Tuesday, June 6.
