Major Saharan dust event affecting Italy and the Balkans

A significant amount of Saharan dust is being transported from northern Africa into Italy, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Hungary and Serbia today. The event is expected to last for several days and reach far into eastern Europe.
This is already causing dirty skies across the region, particularly over southern Italy.
Very high load of dust is expected to affect the entire southern Italy at least until Saturday night, May 13. However, models suggest the event will continue until Tuesday, May 16, when the sky over southern Italy should be completely clear.
