Destructive tornado hits Palos de la Frontera, Spain

A destructive tornado swept through the Spanish town of Palos de la Frontera during the afternoon hours of December 1, 2016. The tornado caused substantial damage, but there were no reports of injuries.

According to media reports, the tornado formed around 17:45 local time and lasted about 5 minutes, causing infrastructural damage in several streets of the town.

Mayor Carmelo Romero said there were no injuries.

Damage assessment is in progress and is expected to be finished on Friday, December 2.

The storm that produced the tornado has left the town flooded, with over 150 calls for help. Most of them were related to waterlogging in low basements and homes, garages and commercial buildings. Several drivers were trapped on flooded roads.

  1. Wow,that’s an incredible video,I guess you could classify this tornado as a multi-vortex,
    but I have never seen any footage of one with all of those ribbon-like vortices!Too bad about the damage,at least no one got hurt.
