Another flash flood outbreak across Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Kansas

At least 350 homes were flooded in a catastrophic flash flood that hit a stretch of the Blanco River in and near Wimberley, Texas, this Saturday night into Sunday morning (May 23/24, 2015).

Another violent rain outbreak event took place across parts of Texas, Oklahoma and western Arkansas, and a tornado warning was issued for parts of the Houston metro area, on Sunday morning.

Fort Smith, Arkansas, has set a new all-time record for the wettest month in its history with 40.13 cm (15.80 inches) of rain by 09:52 CST on May 24. Its previous record was 38.01 cm (15.02 inches) in June 1945.

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood emergency warning for parts of Hays, Caldwell and Guadalupe counties in Texas. 350 people were flooded in Hays County and water rescues are still active.

North and southbound lanes of Interstate 35 were flooded at the Blanco River northeast of San Marcos, Texas, early Sunday. Apartments in Willow Creek along the San Marcos River were flooded, and residents are being evacuated. The Blanco River rose more than 10 m (33 feet) in just 3 hours, reaching a level of 8.22 m (27 feet) above the flood stage. This set a new record beating the 1929 record crest by almost 2.13 m (7 feet).

Multiple high water rescues were performed in Venus, Uvalde, D'fanic and Yancy, Texas. 

A firefighter died, after delivering aid, in Claremore, Rogers County, Oklahoma.

The area north of Houston is expecting 50.8 to 76.2 mm (2 to 3 inches) of rain through Sunday along with damaging winds. Another 101.6 mm (4 inches) of rain are expected in the area, this Monday, according to the National Weather Service.
